This Unfamiliar Place
by Eva Ilona Breski
Humanity has clearly been greatly affected by the tragedies of World War II. In recent years we have begun the painful process of examining that part of our history on both social and personal scales. We have resurrected walls and built museums, recorded holocaust survivor stories, and made Academy Award winning films. Eva Ilona Breski did some examining of her own in, This Unfamiliar Place, which takes a look at the life of Breski's father, who was a Polish citizen during the Nazi invasion of Warsaw.
With dream-like images from past and present, Breski's work evokes questions in us all about who we are in relation to our parent's past struggles. See the film and let us know what you think. To read what Breski has to say about the film and her life, go to the interview.
Upcoming features on UD99 include the black and white schoolhouse story of three naughty little milk bubble blowers, Wee Three by Matt Hulse, and a look at the life of a prison security guard in, Eleven Eighty Two, by Kevin Jerome Everson. If you'd like to see your own work screened on Urban Desires, submit your film. We accept both traditional and digital submissions with a running time under 20 minutes.
