Song writer or she-devil? Katy Clements begs the question. Her debut CD Love Is Wild...Love Is Violent... definitely exudes a kitten with a whip aroma. Besides the pulp fifties, angry woman, I'm going to bludgeon you over the head with this telecaster cover art, consider these lyrics from I Love You In The Strangest Ways
A couple of things I wanna make clear
It'll be my rules if you wanna play here
Everything is fine as long as you obey
I love you in the strangest way
Whoa... okay, sign me up. Okay, semi-seriously this is just one of five great songs on this debut CD that was recorded at Dessau studios with the likes of Marc Ribot. The arrangements are excellent and the band does a great job of exploring the nooks and crannies of Katy's low and slow rock style. The band is rounded out by Alex Alexander on drums, Keith Golden on bass and Robert Quine on electric guitar. Katy has a wonderful voice that is reminiscent of Annie Lennox with a touch of Bonnie Raitt, she really stretches it out on Death In July I like the intro, simple soulful vocals and Marc Ribot on Dobro. Hey, can't beat that. Katy gives it all up with her girl on the edge sound. I'm Going Down features a classic Ribot guitar solo that I suggest you click on and download cause if you are reading this you probably don't have anything better to do. Hey check this out now and you will be the first on your block to say, "I'm the first on my block to hear Katy Clements."
