Christian Lacroix
The Diary of a Collection

In 1993 American Vogue approached fashion designer Christian Lacroix
and asked him to prepare a scrapbook of his working methods for an
upcoming couture collection in Paris. The result is this wonderful
book of 128 full color plates filled with polaroids, hand written
notes, sketches, swatches of fabric, and visual references ranging
from magazine cut outs of Frank Zappa and Lou Reed to religious
tapestries to scraps of historical texts. The diary notes are
predominately in French, but the end pages of the book include
English translations and detailed descriptions of what the designer
was thinking when he was pasting in his scrapbook. Added bonuses:
a thoughtful "Before You Begin" by Lacroix himself and the
1994 Spring-Summer Collection on the Catwalk, complete with programme.
An incredible gift for fans of haute couture or any person interested
in the total creative process from inspiration to finished work.
