While based in Paris, acclaimed photographer David Robinson roamed the cemeteries of Europe. Over a period of two years he took more than ten thousand photographs of cemeteries, including P'ere-Lachaise, Montparnasse, and Montmartre in Paris, the cemeteries of London and village churchyards in England, the Jewish cemetery in Prague, and cemeteries across France, Spain, Italy and Portugal. His images convey the strange yet affecting beauty of cemeteries. Tombs, headstones, the clasping of marble hands, faded flowers, beaded wreaths - are all the emblems of death, and to some, a celebration of lives which have passed.

Beautiful Death brings us 150 of the most stirring of these images. Dean Koontz includes a moving personal memoir of his parents and a mysterious family secret taken to the grave.
