TRAVEL

Friday, 1:30 p.m. Haga Park

Dear Gaby and Roz:

Finally a free moment (over lunch) to drop you a line. I thought of you folks because I spent a pleasant hour chatting this morning with Sofia Bergkvist, who works at Internet Aswellas Coffee -- Stockholm's primo cybercafe. In this lean, clean new space on Tegnérgatan in Norrmalm, one can have coffee and snack on pastries or small sandwiches at the same time as one surfs the Net or chats on IRC at any one of 17 computer stations. Introductory courses are also given on how to search and browse the Internet, how to find particular information, and even marketing and the Internet is covered. As you may know, Sweden is one of the most Net-literate countries in Europe, and if most of the clientele here ranges in age from 30 to 50, it's simply because the younger kids already know it all from school and have Net access there. Sofia and I did a bit of surfing through the decidedly Swedish section of cyberspace (though we did make a quick stop at Urban Desires). In any case, do check out Aswellas's site at http://www.aswellas.se.

Gotta run. A 2:30 appointment for a private tour of King Gustav III's Pavilion.

See ya. Stan
