UD When was the last time you went to church. FRANCIS A long time ago. UD You sing in "Too Much Saturn" that you 'burned incense like crazy/wore sandals and shaved my head/went to India,' et cetera, all for the wrong reasons. Your album is one of the most autobiographical albums I've heard in a long time. Has singing about your mistakes, your addictions, helped you in your recovery? FRANCIS Yes. I think we only talk when we need to learn something. I think what happens is the things we need to learn are what we talk about. I talk a lot about spirituality, that's something I need to learn about. You won't find me talking much about my guitar playing, I'm very confident with the guitar. I don't have anything to talk about it. We teach ourselves by mouthing off.
