UD What brought you to Colin? FRANCIS I'd been talking about Jack Russells and one day a friend of mine told me that there is this girl in New Jersey that was selling Jack Russells. So I rented a car, went to Jersey and when I walked in the door, she had four of them and he [Colin] went right towards me and I said 'that's my dog'. It all happened quite quick. The dog in a lot of respects changed my life. UD In your song, 'Because I Can', you sing "I got a new dog/I got a record deal/I got credit cards." Has Colin inspired your song writing? FRANCIS I haven't written a specific song about him. But like I said, I learned from watching everything and everyone that if you wish to learn, it's there, just look around you. I watched him as a puppy, when we went to the park. All the dogs used to jump over him and he was very frightened. It was during a time that, psychologically, I was very frightened. I felt like a quitter, as you know alcoholics are quitters. As time went by, he grew physically and mentally. He was learning how to jump, how not to quit. That's when I learned how my personality projected in a dog.
