My wife and I originally went to the Poconos anticipating a laughably bad, semi-decent time. But our weekend at Caesars turned out to be a fantastic time, no ironic qualifiers necessary. As far as my original impressions of what a Poconos getaway would be:

Bumbling? Absolutely not. The service and facilities at Caesars were impeccable.

Tacky? Well, let's just say kitschy. And as a fan of well-executed kitsch, Caesars does it the best.

Mediocre? No way. Our room at the Roman Towers was spotless, the activities offered throughout the weekend were enjoyable and well-organized, and the food was tasty and abundant.
