A Lounge tour must include a stop at the Dresden Room to experience Marty and Elanye Roberts. The couple has been performing there for the past 16 years
doing lounge covers of everything from the classics to rock songs and are more than willing to hand the mic to a wannabe crooner from the audience. The Dresden has been open since 1954 and hosts a crowd of trendy scenesters, industry hot shots and celebrities like David Lynch, Nicholas Cage and Julia Roberts who felt compelled to grab the mic and do an impromptu version of "Makin' Whoopie."
Fast becoming a lounge crowd favorite is the 3 of Clubs, roomy and dark with plenty of cozy couches, booths and nooks to hide in. A regular there is "The Wonderful World of Joey," one of the most exciting and hilarious lounge acts around. Watch Joey stop at nothing to entertain "all the young people today" even if that includes, climbing over tables, playing a tape recorded phone call
with his mom and doing a lounge cover of Guns N Roses' "Sweet Child O Mine" complete with Axl snake dance.
On Wednesday nights, DJ Senor Amor spins lounge favorites at the 3 of Clubs. An avid collector for the past 6 years, Amor said he went to record companies years ago and asked them to reissue their back catalogs but received little interest. Now the demand for lounge has reached booming proportions and reissues are pouring in. "I'm glad, I'd much rather see this type of music out there than the next Hootie and the Blowfish record." Amore also hosts the radio show "Molotov Cocktail Hour on KXLU Tuesday nights at 11 p.m.
