Victor Wooten
A Show Of Hands
Compass Records

Victor Silhouette

Hey all you young and unwashed bass cats, if you are looking for a new hero take a listen to Victor Wooten's solo debut on Compass Records and cop some of these licks, if you can.

Victor Wooten is the bass player from Bela Fleck and the Flecktones and the guy seems to have more than 10 fingers. Not many players can pull off a solo bass record, and when you consider that he plays only four string with no overdubs it's even more disturbing.

Victor Wooten

He uses a lot of tapping and two handed techniques, playing beautiful melodies while keeping a bubbling groove.

More Victor Wooten

Classical Thump(#12/00:20) (.au)/(.wav) is a jaw dropper, beyond belief. I doubt there is another bass player around who could do what he does on this cut. You get the feeling that this guy loves to just sit around and play his bass all day long. The compositions have a "one love" positive message that the music supports with its uplifting, light, melodic lines. (#1/00:15)(.au)/(.wav) There are some nice raps and vocals included but the only instrument is the four string bass.

My official review is: Hey, pretty cool.
