Great songs are great songs. They transcend even the most harsh treatment by hapless musicians. This is exactly the situation with Twisted Willie a compilation of Willie Nelson songs on Justice Records out of Houston.

Artists as diverse as L7, Johnny Cash, Krist Novaselic and The Presidents of the United States join in worship of Willie Nelson's song writing mastery.

One of the good ideas that producer, Randall Jamail had was to use lesser known Willie songs so you don't automatically think of Willie doing them.

Willie Nelson was really the first major country artist to reject Nashville and all it's saccharine production values to form a new "band oriented" sensibility in country music. Willie's rebellious attitude regarding genre and the music business was more akin to rock than country and that's why this record seems like a natural to me.

Twisted HR

Twisted Willie Sidebar Most of the artists on this disc do a wonderful job I especially liked Johnny Cash ( those who read here know I'm a fan) doing, Time Of The Preacher (.au)/(.wav).(#1/00:52) It features Kim Thayil on Electric Guitar and Krist Novaselic on Bass. It's a gooey mix of old and new with Cash's signature vocal sound juxtaposed against Thayil's raging Guitar. Also excellent are X, doing Home Motel (.au)/(.wav), (#15/01:22) Jello Biafra doing Still Is Still Moving To Me (.au)/(.wav),(#9/01:33) The Presidents of the United States doing, Devil In A Sleeping Bag (.au)/(.wav). (#6/00:00) Actually I liked every cut on this disc except Steel Pole Bathtub who show they can't play or sing and Kelly Deal of Belly who decided she would make up her own song and use Willie's lyrics to Angel Flying To Close To The Ground. This is a very cool disc from Justice Records and you can email them at: Justice@JusticeRecords.com or check out their site at, http://www.JusticeRecords.com
