Speed-Jazz guitar lines weave and penetrate compound rhythms. Horn parts both out and melodic at the same time build to a frenzy with machine like precision. (#1/00:00-) Time changes and so does your mind on this very funky, interesting disc from Kilgore Trout.

Originally from SyracuseSyracuse now out of SeattleSeattle, Kilgore Trout is a five piece, hopped up jazz/funk/avant, instrumental machine. Each players signature is stamped on this disc and you can tell these guys spend a lot of time practicing.

Brian Sorum on trumpet has a haunting tone(#2/01:15) that floats over the scarily tight rhythm section of Steve Linder (bass) and Dan Moore(drums). Niall Bloom's guitar keeps his band from sounding like fusion with his edgy distorted leads. Steve Ferraro's sax is a tool of destruction and the doubled horn lines are some of the most original I've heard. The songs are long and up tempo with many rhythmic changes within each piece.

The spoken word elements on a couple of cuts are hilarious and my only wish was that I could hear these guys run through a couple of ballads.
