UD: So I know your name originates from Edgar Allen Poe. But you've also been quoted as saying that it can also stand for Peace on Earth or Powers of Evil?
My brother came up with that. It depends on my mood.
UD: When was the last time you felt like it was more Powers of Evil?
This morning when they woke me up at nine on the [tour] bus. I think it's different parts of the day, like early morning is always going to be Powers of Evil. Once I settle into the day, it ends up in Peace on Earth. But I mean this in a comic way. You're sort of like "what am I getting into with this evil girl!?"

UD: Your head's not going to start spinning around is it?
Ah ha and spitting green stuff. (Ha ha, laughs all around). Also recently, crossing the Canadian border, we realized it could be Port Of Entry. Talking about the band it could mean Party of Eccentrics, I mean you can go on forever...

UD: Or People On Ecstasy?
People on Ecstasy, Powerful on Elephants, whatever you want. But also in Dr. Strangelove, they use the abbreviation to mean Peace On Earth or Purity of Essence which I think is cool. I didn't find this out 'til much after.

UD: Who can still call you Annie Danielewski?
Not a lot of people actually.. Everyone in my family like pretty much call me Poe. But every once in a while I'll hear 'Annie' you know? I'll still probably respond. But I got to tell you though for a long time now it's like for people close to me and family it's been "POE". What happens though is when I went to school, your name on your registration is the same as the one on your birth certificate. So when I went to Princeton, the teachers would call Annie, Annie; all of a sudden. I had to start getting used to it. Once I started a band on campus, I began explaining to people that my name was really 'Poe'. I mean my brother would call up and say "is Poe there?" and people were like "who?" It got really confusing for a period of time.

UD: Mmm. These eclairs are Mmm. so good. You gotta have one.
No I'm afraid.
UD: Oh, because of the dairy in the custard filling?
Yeah. But I think I can handle the chocolate part. My voice is a little raspy. It's so hard on the road to be disciplined. I mean I can go a couple of weeks with no milk products, no cigarettes, I really don't drink or anything like that, but cigarettes, they are my worse vice by far.
UD: Everyone has one. I know what you mean, it's chocolate and sweets for me. The other night, it must have been around 3 AM, and I was walking down Fifth Avenue with some friends and I had a craving, it was driving me wild, I couldn't put my finger on it because I was tired. A few blocks later I had noticed that I hadn't had any chocolate that day. Here I was making my friends help me find a deli for a Kit Kat Bar.

You were like "I'm Jonezing, I'm Jonezing!"
UD: Exactly. Tell me a little about your music.
I have to be honest with you, I've never been able to answer that question. I can't, I can't. The only thing I do say is that my music is...Well I'm very into lyrics, telling a story. Some people's music is not even about that, you know? It's more about the music. At least I can isolate it that way.
