Nail - The Beeston EP, DIY Communications

Not alot of information is available about this EP, or the label for that matter. At least I couldn't dig any up, just a FAX number in Germany (0602-412277). Frankie Bones at Sonic Groove recommended it, and I took his word and found gold. I wish I could find these songs on individual, separate pieces of vinyl. This is one of those records that could mix into itself so many different ways. By two copies if you can find it at all.

Side A - I Am Then

With Trance, the simpler the song the deeper the groove. To many sounds and that "zone" is lost. This track goes all the way down. Nicely built with a semi out of place break down in the middle. I would have preferred it to keep groovin along, but trippy organ chords bring you back and you're soon on your way again [243 K .au | 335 K .wav]. Massive panning and reverbe with a steady baseline footing on the slowly fading outtro makes this track oh so mixable.

Side A - Nort

Nort? I couldn't figure it out either. Though Nort is Tron spelled backwards and this cut sounds like it's an Orbital remix of the Disney soundtrack. The bubbly, electronic intro makes you feel like you just drank a Fresca. The fizz slowly fades away and a strong beat and echoy, overlapping sample (German again) save us from going thirsty [279 K .au | 385 K .wav]. Tre trippy outro.

Side B - Volterage

The sleepy intro builds with an Enya like voice whispering sweet German in your ear. A complex, but very danceable, high tom and base pick you up and take you on a journey far beyond where you are [317 K .au | 436 K .wav]. I listened to this song while on a flight to Boston and it took away all of my fears of flying (for 9 minutes anyway). After the enjoyable ride the music sets you down in the same place you started relaxed and thoroughly enlightened. This is definitely my favorite cut.
