Day 13 - 3/20/96 - Greenville, N.C.
(Why in the hell did we do this?)
(Life onboard)
I'm in Peasants in Greenville getting ready to play. The Liles Family unit is here in full force. Our last gig and NYC is sounding good. The grits have lost their romance and Waffle House is soon a thing of the past. We are going to play in a few and I'll let you know how it goes.
Finished playing, did two encores. David Liles' mom and dad have been great. Same for his sister Becky. We've had a great time. I learned a hell of a lot for the next road trip. I want to thank my band. They have been really wonderful and I love them all. It's been kind of a drag to deal with all this technology. Every night at 3 or 4 am I've tried to deal with this thing in various degrees of sobriety and lack of sleep. The amount of craziness that we've experienced can't be reflected here, but I hope you have enjoyed it.
It's going to be great to sleep in my own bed with my girlfriend Yvonne. I can't tell you how bad I want a slice of pizza and a good night's sleep. To everyone who has checked us out, thanks, you're the best, keep writing and we'll keep talking to you. Thanks to all the great folks at Urban Desires who made this whole tour possible. Thanks, Kyle you made one of my little dreams come true. Paul, Chan, Gaby, and Josh you are the best.
We've got some great stuff coming up - some video and live music - so stay tuned.
Peace, Love and Happiness.

Got done uploading the last two days at 5 am - it's ten am and I can't wait to get this computer off my back. We've got lots of photos to show you but this computer can't handle it so you will have to wait till I get back to NYC.
I want to thank all the awesome folks at The Peasant, they made us feel right at home. Thanks to Mike and Vince - we had a great time. Anyone who is in Greenville definitely check the place out - they're gonna have a super club when they are done. We did get a little high from the fumes last night after they sealed the newly poured cement. Hey can't turn down a cheap high.
I learned quite a bit about touring. There are a few things I'll never do again. I got burned on money a couple of times. I think I know how to avoid that little problem next time. The band got along surprisingly well considering what close quarters we were in. On the way back with seven in the van it was quite intimate and the flare-ups were minor. All I can say is, lets do it again!
(F***ing computer)
i had a lot of fun on this trip
met 2 really cool dogs & stayed at their houses & met their owners, curly in Greenville & sidney in Asheville. It's nice to hang out with dogs on the roadThere is a diverse variety of red meat & red meat by-products available all across this great country of ours. It's kinda wierd.
Drinking a lot of coffee & driving is fun. One day I combined some legal stimulants (provided by un-named member of entourage). It did really weird things to my body & its functions. Is that bad?
Goodnight maxx, snake, david, kellimac sam & number 7. I love you. So I'm going to shut up and go to bed.

The marathon trek from Houston to Greenville wasn't as bad as you'd think. Aside from the lost leaf spring in Louisiana, tornado warnings in Atlanta, and scary fish at Morrisons cafetreia it was a breeze... We were warmly welcomed by liles' folks who took us all in as their own. Thanks!
The currently-under-renovation Peasants cafe was a fun enough gig, except some stupid ass muther fucker decided to pour toxic chemicals on fresh cement between our sets. By the end of the night, the " essense de la paint thinner" had shreeded my lungs and throat, leaving me, literally, speachless. I'm still kinda pissed off about it. But now I'm writing this from the comfort of my own futon, in my own room, in my own apartment, in my beautiful, convienient, awesome NYC. So I'm feeling pretty fucking happy.
oatin' indeed
back in the city - i said all of the curse words i know before we got out of the holland tunnel on the way in - it was great
after that ride from houston this was easy and the nyc view on the way in had us acting like goofy kids -
ride back was not bad - minor van trouble - didn't really slow us down - decent spirits til the end from all involvedglad to be back - woulda stayed out much longer
greenville was a blast last night - saw the family and friends from years gone by - thanks to the jolly clan, liles clan (too good to see you - thanks for hospitality and all help), donna and tim, and the rest of the illers at peasant's (oh, can't forget that groovy sealant fume that got everyone at the place so stoned)many many people made this ultimately work - thank you

Played Peasant's in Greenville last night. Last gig of our little tour. Afterwards we hung with some of the ECU students who were really funny. Made me wish I was going to ECU. The best part was when they made fun of Dave Liles for being from Grifton, NC. Liles couldn't find anyway to defend himself. It was one of the first times I ever saw the boy roll over and show his soft underbelly rather than striking back like a cornered animal.
Back to life in New York City. It's strange to drop the strange lingo that developed in the van and communicate like a human being again. I keep on wondering when soundcheck is. I have cravings for disgusting, carcinogenic, road-side food (that fresh beef-jerky at the Louisiana Chevron for instance), and sleeping a full night and staying up a full day seems like a foreign experience. But damn it's good to be back home.
What happened in Greenville? Peasant's is a real cool club. We played two sets. by the second set we were all stoned from epoxy fumes that seeped out from the microbrewery under construction in the club. I'm hoping Kelleigh didn't get chemical pneumonia, the next morning her voice sounded like Lauren Bacall on those coffee commercials ("I love a good cup of coffee... Hack, Hack). The sets were below par but luckily we had the Liles cheering section to get us through.
Greetings to "Little Green Riding Hood," Mike and the rest of the gang.
When's the next tour?
Before I forget, the last pinball game on the tour was Lethal Weapon 3, a really decrepit machine with no sounds and half of the lights out so that sometimes the whole table just went dark. I hit my idiot savant stride in a game of pool against Max after a bunch of my usual pool incompetencies. The last of the beef jerky ran out on the Jersey Turnpike.
