Mike Errico
Bite Size
12F Tunes, BMI
A friend brought me to see Mike Errico at a little place in the west village.
He was doing his solo act along with a slide show and some funny, self
deprecating commentary. I really liked this guy both musically and
presentationally. Hey, you gotta love a guy who does an acoustic version of
AC/DCs You Shook Me All Night
Long and makes it rock.
The version here is with the band but you can get the idea.

Mike has a really great voice that is somewhere between Stevie Wonder and Dave
Matthews. I don't think this CD does his voice justice. When I saw him live he
took more chances vocally but that's the nature of live performance. I would
classify this record as poppy, folk rock, for those who need classification.
The songs are generally up musically. The guitar style reminds me a bit of
James Taylor. The lyrics tend to be of the single guy variety. The trials and
tribulations of a normal guy livin' in the city. Girlfriends, drinking, all
that good stuff. Mike does it with a twist though. Take, If I Were Pope,
for example; "If I Were The Pope. I'd never get to kiss you. If
I were the Pope, man, you know I'd miss you. I'd fall asleep and dream about
your precious lips, face down and drooling on the ancient manuscripts." I
really like the groove on Out In The
Rain It's got a great
funky bass line and a soulful vocal that makes you think of Stevie Wonder (
Hope you don't mind the comparison, Mike). I also think Happy is good. It's got an innocence that
transcends the initial sarcasm
that the song implies. Mike Errico is a good songwriter, a very talented
performer and a very sweet singer. And if you would like to know when he's
playing, how to get his CD, or who he's going out with, you can reach him at
(212)353-2405 or email him at PopeXVII@aol.com. I'm sure he'd be glad to
talk to you.
